Blaq Man, Bronze Penny
My Blaq Man, I liken him to a rusty bronze
penny.
You know the kind that you find all scratched
and tarnished in the middle of the street.
My Blaq Man is so abrasive and rough that you
could cut yourself if you held him too tightly.
I acknowledge the merit of my pennies that are
so often discarded, left behind and considered
worthless by most. The strength and value of
My penny is only recognized when I mass quantities.
The significance and the power of my Blaq Man is most
feared and revered when he is amongst his brethren.
Well I am a Blaq Woman who lifts my Blaq Man up
and out of society’s misconceptions. I dust him off,
shine him up and I hold on to him as if he were some
long sought after, lost treasure. The world will never
know his eminence and the wisdom behind his eyes,
if they continue to leave him on the pavement.
