Interview with Richard T. James, Jr.

THE ROCK: Who is Richard T. James, Jr., Ed.D., tell us something about you?
Richard: I am an young man who is a romantic and heart and searching for love. I love cartoons, comic books, video games, writing and being a life long learner. "NO GOALS, NO GLORY", "EDUCATION IS THE PASSPORT TO THE FUTURE. TOMORROW BELONGS TO THOSE WHO PREPARE FOR IT TODAY" MALCOLM X, "NEVER LET YOUR SUCCESSES GO TO YOUR HEAD AND YOUR FAILURES GO TO YOUR HEART" WILL SMITH.

THE ROCK: Where are you from, and currently residing?
Richard: I am from Detroit, Michigan and that is where I currently reside.

THE ROCK: Are there any other writers in the family?
Richard: All my family members write, but I am the only one who is trying to become an author.

THE ROCK: What prepared you to become an author?
Richard: Life, Love, My Heart and Experiences.

THE ROCK: What inspired you to become a writer?
Richard: My 5th grade English teacher Ms. Sterling and my mother, Mrs. James.

THE ROCK: What inspired you to write your book?
Richard: My mother.

THE ROCK: Tell us about your newest creation. What is the premise?

Richard: My newest creation is entitled "For Your Eyes Only" a collection of sensual, erotic and love poetry.

THE ROCK: Any publishing contracts in the working?

Richard: No

THE ROCK: Have you ever self-published? Why or why not?

Richard: I self-published my first book "Reality From the Heart" and am doing the same for my second book "For Your Eyes Only." Excerpts can be seen on WWW.RJPOET.COM.

THE ROCK: What are "traditional publisher" looking for?

Richard: Poetry is ha hard market to get published in so self publishing is a more efficient and easier to do.

THE ROCK: If you were a publisher, what would be your
niche? Why?
Richard: Poetry would be my niche because it is my passion and love, not to mention there are so many wonderful poets whose works are not shared because no one wants to publish them.

THE ROCK: For an author, is having a publishing contract with a "traditional publisher" important professionally? Why?
Richard: I think it has it benefits financially and with promotion but I think it is more gratifying when you self publish. Your hard work pays off in the end.

THE ROCK: What are some of your professional and personal achievements?
Richard: Professionally I love teaching and making a difference in the lives of my students at Mackenzie High School. Personally, I writing and promoting my books and making a difference in peoples lives with my writing.

THE ROCK: Who are some of your favorite authors?
Richard: I am inspired by such African American writers as Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, and Nikki Giovanni.

THE ROCK: Where do you want to be in 5 years?

Richard: Happier than I am, married, children and possibly teaching at a college or university.

Biography
Rjpoet, born Richard T. James, Jr. is a poet and writer currently living in his home town of Detroit, Michigan. A 1990 graduate of Morehouse College, he holds a Bachelors degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. He also, holds an MBA in Strategic Planning Management from Davenport University and an Educational Specialist degree in Educational Administration from Wayne State University. He teaches Marketing/Business Education in the Detroit Public School system at Mackenzie High School and is an adjunct professor for Davenport University. Proudly, in 2003, Richard completed his doctoral degree program in Educational Administration and Policy studies from Wayne State University.
Reality from the Heart reflects Rjpoet's life experiences. Inspired by such African American writers as Paul Lawrence Dunbar, Langston Hughes, and Nikki Giovanni; his words are imaginative, soul stirring and captivating. Rjpoet has been published in Imaginaries I, a French publication published by the Universite de Nantes; A Delicate Balance and The Space Between, published by the National Library of Poetry; the Sphinx magazine, published by Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., and numerous other publications.
