Interview with Rewa
Marie Fyles
THE ROCK:
Who is Rewa Marie Fyles?
Rewa Marie: I am the author of Feeling
Poetic: A Book of Poetry, which is a heartfelt collection of my poems.
I’m a graduate of the University of Houston-Downtown; I love to
read and am currently the leader of a small book club. I was born and
raised in Houston, Texas.
THE ROCK: When did you start writing?
Rewa Marie: I started writing poetry over
10 years ago, and I developed a passion for writing shortly thereafter.
THE ROCK:
What prepared you to become an author?
Rewa Marie: I was prepared to become an
author, when I knew that I wanted to share my poetry with a larger audience.
Prior to my book being published, I would share with different individuals,
and they could really relate to my poems. The more I shared, the more
positive feedback I received; consequently, the more I wanted to publish
my collection of poetry to share with more readers.
THE ROCK: What inspired you to become a writer?
Rewa Marie: My love for writing developed
very naturally. I would write poems to express how I felt about love,
heartbreak, disappointment; it was a great relief, which inspired me
to keep writing.
THE ROCK:
What inspired you to write your book?
Rewa Marie: Publishing my poems had been
deep in my heart for awhile, but an unexpected lay-off gave me more
time than I knew what to do with. I channeled all of that energy—made
the negative, a positive, and self published my collection of poems.
THE ROCK: Tell us about your newest creation.
What is the premise?
Rewa Marie: I am currently working on my
first novel, which is turning out to be a very exciting and challenging
experience. I continue to write poems, when I am moved to get out deep
and emotional feelings; I do plan on releasing a second book of poetry.
Also, I’m in talks to produce a poetry CD with some of my selected
poems.
THE ROCK: Have you ever self-published?
Rewa Marie: Yes, I self-published Feeling
Poetic because I networked with an author who also self-published her
books through iUniverse. I liked what she had to say and her experiences
with them, so I decided to self-publish with them as well.
THE ROCK: Is having a publishing contract
with a ‘traditional publisher’ important?
Rewa Marie: Since I will soon attempt to
receive a publishing contract, I will say that it is important. I believe
for many authors it serves as a validation to have a publisher respect
your work to the point where they want to represent you.
THE ROCK: What are some of your professional
achievements?
Rewa Marie: Some of my professional achievements
have been graduating from college and landing a job with one of the
Big 4 accounting firms. Self-publishing my book was a big step for me.
THE ROCK: Who are some of your favorite authors?
Rewa Marie: My favorite authors are Maya
Angelou, Iyanla Vanzant, and Diane McKinney-Whetstone.
THE ROCK: Where do you want to be in 5 years?
Rewa Marie: In five years, I would like
to be a successful author and well-known for my writing—novels
and poetry.
THE ROCK: Where can readers find you?
Rewa Marie: Readers can always find me
and what I’m up to at: www.rewamariefyles.com
THE ROCK: Thank you, Rewa Marie Fyles.
