Interview with Sardonyx Jade

THE ROCK: Who is Sardonyx Jade?
Sardonyx Jade: I am just simply one motivated by compassion, bent on enlightenment, a modern Bodhisattva.

THE ROCK: Where are you from?
Sardonyx Jade: I am from the love of my parents and currently reside in the state of bliss.

THE ROCK: Are there any other writers in the family?
Sardonyx Jade: Creativity is in my genes as my parents were musicians.

THE ROCK: When did you start writing?
Sardonyx Jade: I began journaling as a junior high school teen. My notes on life became poetry and stories.

THE ROCK: What prepared you to become an author?
Sardonyx Jade: Aristotle said, "We are what we repeatedly do." I am just simply. I write daily.

THE ROCK: What inspired you to write your book?
Sardonyx Jade: A friend said to me, "It makes no sense to be so talented and broke. You need to do something with all that you have written." I compiled poetry and short stories written over the years and packaged it for the masses in my first self-published publication, Provocative Poetry and Prose: Portraits of Black Love.

THE ROCK: Tell us about your newest creation. What is the premise?
Sardonyx Jade: I have a few projects in the works. The next book to be released January 2006 is a compilation of erotica written by myself, Serenity Zee and Nubieyan; A children’s book by Simply Kat and my first novel tentatively titled Revelations: Turning 30.

THE ROCK: Any publishing contracts in the working?
Sardonyx Jade: The children’s book in the works is by a Simply Kat, a spoken word artist on the LA Poetry scene.

THE ROCK: What are some of your professional achievements?
Sardonyx Jade: My Story "Peaches and I came" was purchased and published by Playgirl Magazine in 2000.

THE ROCK: Who are some of your favorite authors?
Sardonyx Jade: My favorite authors are Toni Morrison, who was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. In her works, Toni Morrison has explored the experience of Black women in a racist culture. She has been a member of both the National Council on the Arts and the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters. Morrison has actively used her influence to defend the role of the artist and encouraged the publication of other Black writers; my other favorites are Anne Rice and Stephen King.

THE ROCK: Where do you want to be in five years?
Sardonyx Jade: I hope to be fully functioning as an independent Publisher with no need to outsource any task, and to do everything from bookbinding to marketing in house.

THE ROCK: Where can readers find you?
Sardonyx Jade: WWW.SARDONYX-JADE.COM
