ROSA PARKS
I'm a Black lady.
Whites treated me badly.
The 1950s brought
floggings, murders and rapes.
Life was a challenge.
Ku Klux Klansmen flaunting
Ghostly white peek-a-boo sheets.
Martin Luther had conditions.
He was on a difficult mission.
Helping Black citizens
Overcome racial segregation.
I was called brave on the bus.
No one could make me stand
To give my seat to a white man.
I'd rather go to my grave.
I was arrested and put in jail.
A Black lady of character
without power.
Now, I have a peaceful calm
Far away from harm.
God strengthened my soul.
Racism hasn't changed
I'm told. |
