Art began his musical journey at the age of 5 singing in the church choir and listening to his mother sing and play the Hammond organ. By the time Art had graduated from high school he had received numerous awards and had been recognized as an All-Area, All Region and All-State Alto, Tenor and Baritone Saxophonist and chosen as an alternate to the McDonalds All-American Band. In 1996, after 4 years of college, Art decided to focus on his music career. By 2003 he had begun performing professionally as a solo artist. As of today Art has performed and/or co-headlined shows with Chuck Loeb, Marion Meadows, Roy Ayres, Everette Harp, Bob Baldwin, Randy Scott, Noel Webb, Najee, Michael Henderson, Jean Carne, Cuba Gooding & the Main Ingredient, and a host of others. He has also performed on the Brazilian-American Jazz Festival in Rio de Janeiro, the Beantown Jazz Festival in Boston, the Volvo Jazz Festival and several others.

Neo-Soul

Life is what this alternative rhythm and blues artist delivers to the world. A celebrated singer/songwriter/producer, Chester "Lyfe" Jennings, a 26 year-old Toledo, Ohio native and self-taught musician plays the guitar, bass and piano. Lyfe incorporates these and other live instrumentation into most of the tracks he produces. To date, Lyfe has over 200 songs in his catalogue, and is set to release his highly anticipated debut album on Sony Urban Music, Lyfe 268-192, summer 2004. Lyfe's original folk/R&B/hip-hop style and Sam Cook/Al Green reminiscent voice, profess an intellectual stream of elevated consciousness. Songs like, "She Got Kids", "26 Years, 17 Days" and "Stick Up Kid", broadcast street life for the world to absorb. Lyfe's romantic side emerges in love songs like, "Must Be Nice," and "I Can't". The University of Maryland Student Entertainment Events & Ikon presents "The Game". The Game work with 50 Cent and G-Unit. The arrangement was to help build a growing buzz around The Game would fuel interest in G-Unit. Dr. Dre and 50 Cent were executive producers on The Game's debut album, The Documentary. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard music charts and spawn hit singles such as "How We Do," "Hate It or Love It," and "Dreams."

MAXI PRIEST

Christened the "King of Lovers Rock" by his fans, British reggae star Maxi Priest was one of the most internationally popular reggae singers since Bob Marley. Priest's pop and modern R&B influences didn't exactly endear him to reggae purists, but they gave him a strong crossover appeal that paid off in the trans-Atlantic chart-topper "Close to You." At times he strayed too far from his reggae roots to deliver a true stylistic hybrid, but his silky-smooth voice was ideally suited for light, romantic material, and his best music was as sensual as it was soulful.

BLACK NATIVITY

This world premiere play with music by Charles Randolph-Wright, captures the soul of Craig Marberry’s new book, shedding light on the intimate world inside African-American barbershops. Listen in and I think you’ll find a real kinship with the men (and women) telling the tales of their lives. Enter a world still known as "the black man’s country club" with Charles Randolph-Wright’s clever and poignant adaptation of Craig Marberry’s Cuttin’ Up: Wit and Wisdom Inside Black Barbershops. Cuttin’ Up focuses on three barbers: Howard, Andre and Rudy. Over the course of the play, we spend several days in the lives of these barbers and their customers, sharing stories that vividly bring to life various characters from their past and present.

THE SPIRIT OF KWANZAA

Dance Institute of Washington Co-Founder and Artistic Director Fabian Barnes and dancers from his Washington Reflections Dance Company present the annual favorite The Spirit of Kwanzaa, a "shake-the-rafters, rattle-the-floorboards, unabashedly uplifting" (The Washington Post) pageant of dance, poetry, video, and song in honor of the African American holiday. The seven principles of Kwanzaa come alive as never before with a talented lineup of local artists, guest performers, and Washington Reflections Dance Company, the professional company of the Institute. An NEA Jazz Masters on Tour Event featuring James Moody, Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, Paquito D' Rivera, Randy Brecker, Roy Hargrove, Antonio Hart, and other members of the Dizzy Gillespie All-Star Big Band, plus special guests. For nearly 60 years, James Moody has been a jazz institution, whether showcasing his improvisational genius on the saxophone or flute, or yodeling through his signature hit, "Moody's Mood for Love." In 1946, the NEA Jazz Master joined Dizzy Gillespie's seminal big band, forming lifelong friendships with the bandleader and his orchestra mates. As part of the first NEA Jazz Masters on Tour event at the Kennedy Center, Moody is joined by an all-star ensemble of Dizzy alumni featuring three other NEA Jazz Masters--Slide Hampton, Jimmy Heath, and Paquito D'Rivera--for a concert bash heralding their colleague's 80th birthday.
